He was seven years old, and he became the king of the Jewish nation. You say, how can a seven year old possibly lead a nation? Well, he had a guy by the name of Jehovah who is a priest, who was there to help him and guide him and give him solid biblical counsel. The king's name was Joash. We read about him in Second Chronicles chapter 23 and chapter 24.

00;00;38;17 - 00;01;07;16
Unknown
I'm going to show you something that it says in chapter 24, beginning with verse one of Second Chronicles. Joash was seven years old when he became king. He reigned 40 years in Jerusalem, and his mother name was Ziba from Beersheba. Joash did what was right in the sight of the the Lord all the days of Jehovah the priest.

00;01;07;19 - 00;01;41;20
Unknown
I want you to notice this statement. This young man did what was right in the sight of the Lord. All the days of Jehovah. The priest. Now look, the Bible says that King Joash did well while Jehovah was giving him counsel. In fact, he brought restoration to Jewish worship. Jewish worship had gone into idolatry, and it was it was a pitiful sight.

00;01;41;22 - 00;02;13;22
Unknown
And he, he, along with Jordan, began to rebuild the temple and restore the temple. The Bible says in verse eight of that same chapter, so the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside by the gate of the house of the Lord. And they made a proclamation in Judah and Jerusalem to bring to the Lord the levee fixed by Moses, the servant of God on Israel in the wilderness.

00;02;13;24 - 00;02;40;00
Unknown
All the officers and all the people rejoiced and brought in their levies, and dropped them into the chest until they had finished. And it came about whenever the chest was brought into the king's office, or by the Levites, when they saw that there was much money. Then the king, scribe, and the chief priest officer would come, empty the chest, take it, and return it to its place.

00;02;40;03 - 00;03;14;13
Unknown
Thus they did daily and collected much money. The King and Jehovah gave it to those who did the work of the servants of the house of the Lord, and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the Lord, and also workers in iron and bronze, to repair the house of the Lord. So the workmen labored, and the repair work progressed in their hands, and they restored the house of God according to his specifications, and strengthened it.

00;03;14;15 - 00;03;36;25
Unknown
And when they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jordan, and it was made into utensils for the house of the Lord, utensils for the service, and the burnt offering, and pans and utensils of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord continually all the days of Jordan.

00;03;36;28 - 00;04;08;28
Unknown
Now look at verse 15. Now when Jordan reached a ripe old age, he died. He was 130 years old at his death. They buried him in the city of David, among the kings. He was so well thought of that he was buried in the same area of the kings of Israel. The Bible says the king listened to them.

00;04;08;28 - 00;04;37;07
Unknown
The Bible said, after the death of Jordan, the officials of Judah came and bowed down to the king, and the king listened to them, and they abandoned the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and served the ashram. The the female idol, and the idols. So wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for their guilt. Yet he sent prophets to them to bring them back to the Lord.

00;04;37;10 - 00;04;45;20
Unknown
Though they testified against them, they would not listen. Listen. Joash would not listen.

00;04;45;22 - 00;05;20;27
Unknown
The leaders of his kingdom would not listen. God was giving them wake up call after wake up call, but they rejected the Word of God. Then the Spirit of God, verse 20 came on, Zechariah, listen, the Son of Jehovah, Jehovah, who had who had meant so much to Joash, Jehovah, who had given such great counsel to Joash, the spirit of God, came on Zechariah the son of Jehovah of the priest.

00;05;20;29 - 00;05;49;25
Unknown
And he stood above the people, and said to them, thus God has said, why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord and do not prosper, because you have forsaken the Lord. He has also forsaken you. So they conspired against him, and at the command of the king, as Joash at the command of the king, they stoned him to death in the court of the house of the Lord.

00;05;49;27 - 00;06;24;12
Unknown
Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which his father Jehovah had shown him, and he murdered his son. And as he died, he said, May the Lord see and avenge. I tell you, God created Joash in his mother's womb, and God created him for a purpose. He was to glorify God and to enjoy him forever. And that worked fine as long as jihad.

00;06;24;12 - 00;07;03;28
Unknown
It was there to counsel him, to guide him. But when jihad had done, King Joash lost his focus. He had no core convictions. He listened to the ungodly. He ignored repeated wakeup calls from the Lord. He led God's covenant people into blatant idolatry. Ultimately, his spiritual life collapsed. He squandered his life purpose. He didn't finish well. Here's how his life ended.

00;07;04;00 - 00;07;26;27
Unknown
We find it in verse 23 to 25 of that same chapter. Now it happened at the turn of the year that the army of Arameans came against him, and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, destroyed all the officials of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus. And they the army of the air.

00;07;26;27 - 00;08;01;10
Unknown
Millions came with a small number of men. Yet the Lord, the Lord, delivered a very great army, the army of the Jewish people, into their hands, because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. Thus they executed judgment on Joash when they had departed from him, for they left him very sick, his own service. Joash, his own servants, conspired against him because of the blood of the son of Jehovah to the priest, and murdered him on his bed.

00;08;01;11 - 00;08;37;13
Unknown
So he died, and they buried him in the city of David. But they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings. Yehuda was there, but Joash, a king for about 47 years, was not there. Buried among the kings. Let me say something to you. The creator shaped you in your mother's womb, and he shaped you with the same purpose that he shaped Joash.

00;08;37;15 - 00;09;07;16
Unknown
And every person on this planet since the time of Adam and Eve, you were created to glorify God and to enjoy him forever. Here's the question, and I want you to think about it for just a moment. What will the end of your life story look like? We've read about Joash is it didn't end very well, did it?

00;09;07;19 - 00;09;40;28
Unknown
He started well. But he ended terribly well. What's the end of your life story going to be like? Think about that for just a moment. Some of you haven't started well because you have rejected repeated invitations that the Holy Spirit has dropped into your heart to believe in Jesus, to to repent of your sins and believe in Jesus and become a child of God.

00;09;41;00 - 00;09;58;19
Unknown
But you've chosen to play by your own rules. You chosen to do your own thing. The Bible says in Proverbs chapter 14 verse 12, there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is death.

00;09;58;22 - 00;10;41;22
Unknown
But you got a chance this morning. You can start well this morning you say. But my age, my age is a factor. No, it's not. But. But, pastor, my life is littered by failure, by sinfulness. I tell you, regardless of your age or regardless of what you've done in your life, I assure you on the authority of God's Word that if you repent of your sins this morning and you place your faith in trust in Jesus as your Savior and your Lord, you can start well today.

00;10;41;25 - 00;11;06;04
Unknown
You can start well today. Hey, I've seen old people start well. I've seen young people start well. I've seen middle age people start well. I've seen teenagers start well. I've seen all different kinds of people start well. And you can start well today. In fact, at the end of this service, we're going to give you an opportunity to do just that.

00;11;06;07 - 00;11;27;19
Unknown
And I hope and pray that when that invitation is issued, that you will be the first to walk down the aisle and come to a staff member and say, I want to believe in Jesus today, I'm ready to start. Well, I've made a mess of things. I tell you, God is a God of infinite grace and mercy and he'll forgive.

00;11;27;19 - 00;11;51;24
Unknown
You need a change. You and he arrived a new ending to your story. But there are others here today and you have started well. And I praise God that there came a point in your life when you repented of your sin, and you placed your faith in Jesus as your Savior and your Lord. But here's what you gotta understand.

00;11;51;27 - 00;12;20;02
Unknown
How you finish is just as important as how you start. It is. And I hope and pray that today you will allow the whole Holy Spirit to sharpen your sense of what's really important. All right. There's a lot of people today, a lot of young people today who are absolutely, messed up because Tik Tok is no longer available.

00;12;20;04 - 00;12;47;20
Unknown
Now, I understand it's been an important part of their lives, but, see, here's what we gotta do. If we want our life story to end well, we gotta make sure that from this point to the end of our our days, that we evaluate what's really important and what's not important. Let me tell you the most important thing in your life is to know Jesus.

00;12;47;22 - 00;13;19;18
Unknown
The most important thing in your life is to glorify him and enjoy him forever. By the way, do you know that you can enjoy Jesus in this life, not just in heaven? You say, how in the world are we supposed to enjoy Jesus in this life? Have you ever been in a worship service? And we're singing, we're worshiping, and you just sense the presence of the Spirit of God.

00;13;19;21 - 00;13;50;03
Unknown
I tell you, that's enjoying God. Have you ever been alone in your quiet time early in the morning? Nobody else is up. And you're reading your Bible and you're praying, and the Holy Spirit gives you a verse of Scripture that just ministers to your heart. And it's almost as if Jesus is is standing right there beside you as enjoying God in this life.

00;13;50;05 - 00;14;25;23
Unknown
Don't you imagine that when the children of Israel moved across the river Jordan and they obey God, and they marched around the city of Jericho, and on that last day they marched around seven times. The trumpet sounded and they all shouted, and those walls fell down. Don't you imagine? They were in awe of God. I'll tell you, they were enjoying God at that moment so we can enjoy God in this life, and we can enjoy him forevermore in his presence in heaven.

00;14;25;23 - 00;14;55;05
Unknown
Here's the truth I want you to seize on today. Start well and finish well. That's what I want you to remember today. Start well and finish well. But how do we glorify God and enjoy him consistently throughout our lives? We've been talking about that for the last several weeks. We've noted some specific ways that we can glorify God and enjoy him.

00;14;55;07 - 00;15;24;09
Unknown
Number one, we can remember the atoning death of Jesus. And we certainly did that a few weeks ago when we observe the Lord's Supper. We were glorifying him that morning. We can abide in Jesus as he said in John chapter 15, and the Lord Jesus will produce much spiritual fruit through our lives. I tell you, that's glorifying him and enjoying him in this life.

00;15;24;11 - 00;16;07;00
Unknown
And we can live to please him. We can arrange in order our decisions and and our thoughts and the patterns of life around just simply pleasing him and to please him brings great joy to our heart. It glorifies him and we can endure the tough times. We all have them, don't we? We can endure them. We can let people who are our neighbors and our friends and our relatives see us handle those tough times in a way that brings ultimate glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ.

00;16;07;02 - 00;16;37;15
Unknown
And then we can commit to sexual purity. We talked about that last week. The Bible says that our body belongs to God. It's not ours to do with it what we want to. We need to commit to sexual purity and know that when we commit to sexual purity, we set our bodies aside to be vessels of honor for the glory of Jesus and the father.

00;16;37;17 - 00;17;16;11
Unknown
We're pleasing him. And we enjoy his favor and his presence. But today, I'm going to lay out three more ways that we can glorify the Lord and enjoy him in this life and forevermore. Here's the first to put others before yourself. You really want to glorify him. Put others before yourself. It's a cardinal principle of living for something bigger than ourselves.

00;17;16;14 - 00;17;44;03
Unknown
Oh, what a what a shallow life it is. If we only live to please ourselves, if it's all about us and what we can accumulate and what we can do with our lives, how many vacations we can take, what kind of cars we drive, how big our houses are, what a shallow life that is. But I want you to know, dear friend, that if we want to live for something bigger than ourselves.

00;17;44;05 - 00;18;31;05
Unknown
Paul highlighted the importance putting others before ourselves in First Corinthians chapter ten, verse 31, the Bible says, what is then you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Now the context of this verse sheds much light on what he was meaning here. I want you to follow me. Turn to first Corinthians chapter ten, and I want to read to you beginning with verse 23, down to verse 30, 23 to 30, first Corinthians 1023 to 30.

00;18;31;07 - 00;19;06;01
Unknown
Notice what Paul wrote now he was writing a book. He was writing to a church in Corinth. Corinth was a, a a Greek city, but it was under Roman rule. It was under Roman rule. He wrote, all things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. Let no one seek his own good but that of his neighbor.

00;19;06;04 - 00;19;43;03
Unknown
Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscious sake. Now remember this Corinth was a idolatrous city, and if you went to the meat market, most of the meat in the meat market had been sacrificed to an idol, and then it was brought to the meat market to sell to the public. And so that was an issue for some in the, in the Christian church eat anything.

00;19;43;03 - 00;20;14;22
Unknown
That is verse 25, eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience sake. For the earth is the Lord's and all it contains. You know what? You know what God saying here? Saying it's okay to eat meat. I'm glad. I love to eat meat. He says it's okay. He said the earth is the Lord's and all it contains.

00;20;14;25 - 00;20;37;03
Unknown
If one of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go eat anything that is set before you without asking questions for conscious sakes, in other words, don't go into unbelievers home and they invited you and your family to dinner. No, don't go in there and they're serving you a steak. And don't you ask them if that's been sacrificed to an idol.

00;20;37;05 - 00;21;06;18
Unknown
Tear into that thing. Eat it, he said. But if anyone says to you, this meat is sacrificed to idols, that's a key. You need to take that cue. Do not eat it for the sake of the one who informed you. For conscious sake. I mean not your own conscience, but the other man's. For why is my freedom judged by another's conscience?

00;21;06;20 - 00;21;34;27
Unknown
If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks? What do then you eat or drink? Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks, or to the Church of God, just as I also please all men and all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profits of many, so that they may be saved.

00;21;35;00 - 00;22;05;29
Unknown
So Christians may eat meat sacrificed to idols. Paul said, but Christians must consider others before they eat it. Having the right listen, having the right to do something does not mean that we are free to do it in every circumstance. You see some things we do even though we have the right to do it. It has a negative effect on others.

00;22;05;29 - 00;22;35;24
Unknown
It hurts people. We don't want to hurt people. That's not to go. Our goal is to see people saved and to be right with God now. Paul championed this idea of putting others before yourself with the Philippian church. Also in Philippians chapter two verse and three and four, Paul wrote, do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind, regard one another as more important than yourselves.

00;22;35;26 - 00;23;08;26
Unknown
Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Now, ladies and gentlemen, if we really are serious about looking at the end of our life story and making sure we don't come to the end of our life story full of regrets, because we look back and realize that we have failed to glorify God on numerous occasions, we fail to take into account how it affects other people.

00;23;08;29 - 00;23;24;21
Unknown
If we really want our lives to end well, to finish well, we have got to put others before ourselves. It glorifies God.

00;23;24;24 - 00;24;06;21
Unknown
And it helps us to enjoy God because we we enjoy God. When we're above, we obey God. Now here's a second way that you glorify God. First, put others before you says. Second, make generosity a priority. Make generosity a priority. Here's a here's the truth. We're driving home today. Start well and finish well. To glorify God and enjoy him consistently throughout our lives means that we must take some spiritual inventory from time to time.

00;24;06;21 - 00;24;46;11
Unknown
We need to make spiritual adjustments in our lives. That includes our time, our talents, and our treasure. In Second Corinthians chapter nine, beginning with verse six six, Paul wrote these words, now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion.

00;24;46;11 - 00;25;26;11
Unknown
Now look at this, for God loves a cheerful giver. God loves a cheerful giver, and God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything you may have an abundance for every good deed. As it is written, he scattered abroad, he gave to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

00;25;26;11 - 00;25;53;09
Unknown
In other words, here's what he's saying you cannot give God. You cannot out give God. When you give God time, he gives you more time. When you give God your treasure, he gives you more treasure. When you give God your talents and you serve him, he uses your talents and and multiplies your effectiveness for the kingdom of God.

00;25;53;12 - 00;26;25;03
Unknown
He says in verse 11, you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God. Because of the proof given by this ministry, the ministry of liberality, the ministry of generosity.

00;26;25;05 - 00;26;56;14
Unknown
Look, listen what he said. They will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all. They will glorify God. You say, let me ask you a question as a Holy Spirit ever laid upon your heart to bless somebody financially, have you ever done that?

00;26;56;16 - 00;27;28;19
Unknown
Heechul I don't mind, darling. Ha, I know, I know, he's laid on Brother Tommy's heart and Miss Roses because they've given no telling how much. Out their ministry resources to help pastors in India. I bet you if I call Brother Tommy up here. And I said, Brother Tommy, when you and miss Rose, when you gave that money to bless those pastors, those poor pastors in India, did it bless you?

00;27;28;21 - 00;28;06;18
Unknown
Did you enjoy doing that? I guarantee he would say yes. Nod brother Tommy. Yes. He's nodding. He agrees with me. I'm telling folk, that's the way it works. Listen, you were created to enjoy God and to glorify him, not just in eternity, but throughout your life, from the start to the finish of your Christian life. God is glorified and honored when we practice biblical generosity.

00;28;06;21 - 00;28;40;01
Unknown
Proverbs chapter three, verses nine and ten honor the Lord. That word honor is the same Hebrew word that we talked about a couple of weeks ago. Chabad, which refers to the heaviness and the and the weightiness of God, the gravity of God. Honor the Lord from your wealth and from the first of all, your produce. So your barns will be filled with plenty and your virtual overflow with new wine.

00;28;40;08 - 00;29;11;09
Unknown
Proverbs 1125 the generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered. Oh, what a thrill it is to take what the Lord places before us and hold on to it lightly. Not, not, not grab it and and and hoard it, but to hold on to it lightly. And when the Lord brings an opportunity for us to bless somebody with our generosity, we release that generosity.

00;29;11;09 - 00;29;39;16
Unknown
And it not only blesses a person that you give it to. But I'll tell you, friend, they'll come back and bless you multiple times. Multiple times. You see, when you do that, when you're generous, it glorifies God. It shows that you are living for someone and something greater than yourself.

00;29;40;01 - 00;30;12;11
Unknown
Hey, listen, I don't want to come to the end of my life and look back with the regrets, my goal, my goal. Is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. My goal is to finish well, not just start well. I started 50 years ago, but I want to finish well. If I'm 80 years old, 90 years old live, I'm 78 years old.

00;30;12;11 - 00;30;48;26
Unknown
Whatever it is, whatever the end date is, I don't want to look back with regrets. I want to look back and know. That as much as I knew how I sought to glorify God, does that mean we're perfect now? We're not perfect. Not at all. But I tell you, dear friend, listen to me very carefully. The most important thing we can do is to honor the Lord, to glorify him and to enjoy him forever.

00;30;48;29 - 00;31;15;11
Unknown
I'm going to give you a third way. We do that. We said we glorify the Lord by putting others before ourselves, by making generosity a priority. And number three, by relying on God's promises for different times. The Bible declares a truth that is vital to every person in this room. Every person watching live stream. What is this truth?

00;31;15;14 - 00;31;26;08
Unknown
Here it is found four times. The righteous will live by faith.

00;31;26;10 - 00;31;59;26
Unknown
The righteous will live by faith. We find that in the back to four in Romans chapter one, verse 17, in Galatians 311 and Hebrews chapter ten, verse 38. And if God says the same thing four times, I think we ought to get the picture right. If we really want to glorify God, if we really want to enjoy him in this life and forever, we need to rely on God's promises.

00;31;59;29 - 00;32;29;27
Unknown
We need to live by faith. This morning, as an example, I want to point you to a man by the name of Abraham. He started well and he finished. And while there were some hiccups along the way, but he started well and he finished well. Let's listen to what Paul wrote about him in Romans chapter four, verses 18 to 21.

00;32;29;29 - 00;32;59;27
Unknown
In hope against hope, he believed he had faith so that he might become a father. Many nations according to that which have been spoken, so shall your descendants be. Without becoming weak in faith, he contemplates his own body now as good as dead, since he was about 100 years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb. Understand this God made a promise to him.

00;32;59;29 - 00;33;25;21
Unknown
He said, Abraham, you and Sarah are going to have a child. You going to have a son, and your descendants are going to be like the stars of the sky, like the, the, the, the sand on the seashore. But he was almost 100 years old, and Sarah was almost 90 years old.

00;33;25;23 - 00;33;56;25
Unknown
And the Bible says, without becoming weak in faith, he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead, since he was about 100 years old. The dead that so Sarah's womb. Yet with respect to the promise of God. Look at this now. Yet with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief, but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God.

00;33;56;27 - 00;34;23;00
Unknown
Listen later, Jim, when you believe God, when you trust God, when you take his promise and you claim that promise, I want you to know that you're glorifying God. You're saying, God, you are trustworthy. You are faithful. I believe your promise. And I'm going to act on your promise before I ever see the evidence that that promises coming true.

00;34;23;03 - 00;35;03;13
Unknown
That's what Abraham and Sarah did. And being fully assured, verse 21, that what God had promised, he was able to perform. So he believed that God would give him a child. And all these descendants, and sure enough, God gave them a baby when he was a hundred, and she would 90. They waited 25 years. Listen, they waited 25 years for God to fulfill that promise, but they never wavered in unbelief.

00;35;03;16 - 00;35;35;25
Unknown
Here we are, 4000 years later, giving glory to the God of heaven for the great things he did through this man who did not waver in unbelief. The Bible is full of promises, and you can trust the Lord to fulfill those promises in your life. In so doing, you can glorify him and enjoy him in this life and forevermore.

00;35;35;28 - 00;36;07;03
Unknown
So my challenge you this morning is simple start well. Finish well. Think long and hard about the end of your life story. What do you want it to look like? Do you want it to look like Joe? Ashes or Joe Hoya? Do you want it to look like Abraham's?

00;36;07;06 - 00;36;37;23

If you do. You got to make some spiritual adjustment. You got to put others before yourself. You got to make generosity a priority. You got to rely on God's promises. Now, some of you, as we mentioned at the first part of the sermon, you haven't even started yet. You see the starting line is faith in Christ. And you've never put your faith in Christ.

Or you may be religious. You may think that good works will get the job done. But I tell you, they won't. The starting line with God. If you want to start well and finish well, you got to trust Jesus as your Savior in your Lord. So I'm going to ask our staff and our worship team to come, and we're going to give you an opportunity this morning to receive the invitation of the Holy Spirit.

See, I yes, I'm inviting you to believe in Jesus, but someone much more important to me than me is inviting you to believe in Jesus. And it's a Holy Spirit of God.

See, the Holy Spirit was given to us that he might convict us of of sin, righteousness, and the judgment to come. God loves you. And he sent His Son 2000 years ago to down the cross for your sins, and to raise you from the dead, and raised him from the dead. I want to encourage you this morning. Come to Christ.

Start well with him this morning. It's not too late, not too late. Come to Christ. And then many of you. And here you have started. Well, praise God, you've believed in Jesus. But your life is getting a little shaky. You're not glorifying him the way you glorified him at the beginning.

I want you to know he loves you too much to ignore that. And he comes to you and he gives you a wake up call after a wake up call to come back to him, to glorify him in every area of your life. I want to invite you to come to the altar and just bow before the Lord and ask him to help you, to restore you, to revitalize you spiritually.

I promise you, he'll do it and you can finish well. You can finish well. Amen. So let's make sure that we start well and we finish well. Father, in the name of Jesus, have your way in our hearts. Lord, I pray for the one who needs to start. Well, did they bring them to Christ? I pray for the one who is a believer who have started well.

And yet, Lord, there their lives are being influenced by things they should be influenced by and I pray in the name of Jesus that you would. You would restore them. You would revitalize them. That would they would make whatever spiritual adjustments they need to make in their lives, or to help them to put others first before themselves, help them to make generosity a priority, help them to rely on your promises and to live by faith.
