Glorify | January 12, 2025 | To God Be The Glory

Well, it wasn't that great by the choir and the orchestra. My goodness. So worship. Thank you. Choir and orchestra. Thank you, Joshua, for leading our church so well. God has a purpose for you. And his purpose for you stretches throughout all of eternity. It's eternal, not temporal. You say, well, pastor, what is God's purpose for me? Well, God's purpose is that you would glorify him and enjoy him forever.

00;00;37;06 - 00;01;01;29
Unknown
We've already talked about that and in this series, but I think it's worth revisiting again. The most important thing you can do in the year 2025. The most important thing you can do in the month of January. The most important thing you can do this week, and the most important thing you can do today. Sunday, January the 12th.

00;01;01;29 - 00;01;34;26
Unknown
The most important thing you can do is to glorify the Lord your God. I want to make this statement to you, and I want you to remember this throughout the sermon. Every part of your life has the potential to glorify God. I'm afraid we bought into a myth, the myth that our lives can be separated and segmented into the secular and the sacred.

00;01;34;28 - 00;02;10;19
Unknown
Can I tell you it is only a myth? God is concerned about every part of your life, and he has so created you that in every part of your life, every thing you do, everything you say, you can glorify the Lord your God. Now to understand how to glorify God, we first need to understand this word, glory. I want to visit that for a few moments as we begin the sermon today.

00;02;10;22 - 00;02;52;00
Unknown
There are two words, one in Hebrew, one in Greek, that is used to translate the word glory. The Hebrew word I may not pronounce it correctly. I'm not a Hebrew scholar, but it's keyboard, keyboard. It may. Here's the meaning. Heaviness. Heaviness. God is heavy, not weight wise, but God. There's a there's a gravity, a weight to God that demands our worship of him and our glorification of him.

00;02;52;03 - 00;03;24;17
Unknown
Paul picked up on this idea of weightiness or heaviness of God when he wrote in Second Corinthians chapter four, verses 17 and 18, these words he said, for momentary, light, affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory here, that an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.

00;03;24;19 - 00;04;02;13
Unknown
For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. Now Moses was a man of God. He's one of the great heroes of the faith. And God chose Moses to lead the chosen people of Israel out of Egyptian bondage to lead them through the wilderness, which turned out to be 40 years, and into the Promised land that God had promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at Mount Sinai.

00;04;02;15 - 00;04;38;00
Unknown
Moses went up on the mountain, Mount Sinai, and he began to pray in Exodus chapter 3318, I want you to hear what Moses prayed. He said, I pray you show me your glory. We just sang about that, didn't we? Show me your glory. Now, in Exodus chapter 34, if you take your Bible, look over there for just a moment.

00;04;38;02 - 00;05;14;03
Unknown
Exodus chapter 34. The Bible says in verse 19 that God responded to Moses when Moses said, I pray you, show me your glory. And here's what God said to him, I myself will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion, on whom I will show compassion.

00;05;14;06 - 00;05;42;25
Unknown
But he said, you cannot see my face. For no man can see me and live. Then the Lord said, behold, there's a place by me, and you shall stand there on the rock, and it will come about while my glory. Do you see that while my glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and cover you with my hand until I pass by.

00;05;42;27 - 00;06;22;09
Unknown
Then I will take my hand away, and you shall see my back. But my face shall not be seen. The glory of God, when we glorify our Lord, we praise him. In verse eight of chapter 34. I want you to look at this verse five, chapter 34, verse five. The Lord descended into the cloud and stood there with him, as he called upon the name of the Lord.

00;06;22;16 - 00;06;49;11
Unknown
Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, the Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving kindness in truth, who keeps loving kindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin. And yet he will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. This thing, the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the grandchildren, to the third and fourth generations.

00;06;49;17 - 00;07;28;21
Unknown
And look what happened to Moses when Moses encountered the goodness of God, and the heaviness and the weightiness of God and the attributes of God. Verse eight Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship. And he said, if now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though the people are so obstinate, and pardon our iniquity in our sin, and take us as your own possession.

00;07;28;23 - 00;08;00;23
Unknown
I want you to notice how Moses responded to the glory of God. The Bible says he bowed low and he worshiped. Hey, that's what we should do every time we get together. We should worship the Lord. We should create. We should treat God with reverence and respect because God, whether you believe it or not. God is heavy and weighty.

00;08;00;25 - 00;08;31;16
Unknown
There's a gravity to God, and he deserves the very best that we can offer him in our worship and our praise. So that's the the Hebrew word for worship, Chabad. And then the the Greek word in the New Testament is doxa. And it's used in the New Testament to speak of God's glory. It carries the idea of light shining.

00;08;31;19 - 00;09;02;11
Unknown
Now, as you know, we have a son, and that son is the source of our great light. But out of that sun comes rays of sun shine. That's the picture of this word doxa. It carries the idea of light shine. It is a. It is a rays of light that shine forth from the sun. They are. The doxa are the glory of the sun.

00;09;02;13 - 00;09;46;15
Unknown
Now, this word was used by the Greeks to refer to one's fame or reputation. Just like the light shines forth from the sun, God's fame or reputation shines forth in our world even today. The Lord Jesus Christ is the outshining of divine glory. And Hebrews chapter one, verse three. The writer of Hebrews wrote this, and he, Jesus, is the radiance or the dark saw the radiance, the shining of his glory, the glory of God, and the exact representation of his nature, and upholds all things by the word of his power.

00;09;46;22 - 00;10;15;03
Unknown
When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. We can't truly glorify the Lord until we get a grasp of his glory. I hope and pray that you've gotten a grasp of his glory today, and I hope and pray that for the rest of your life, that you will give him the honor and respect and glory.

00;10;15;04 - 00;11;01;06
Unknown
Worship and praise that he deserves. Now there, I want you to understand a couple of things about God's glory. First, God's intrinsic glory. That's the sum total of all his attributes, his character and his nature. That's what God revealed to Moses here and in chapter 34. Look at the gap in verse six. Then the Lord pass by in front of him and proclaim the Lord, the Lord God, compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in loving kindness in truth, who keeps loving kindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin.

00;11;01;08 - 00;11;33;13
Unknown
And so weightiness of God. That's his attributes, and his character and his nature. Let me make this statement to you. God's intrinsic glory never increases and it never decreases. It's always perfect. Last week, I highlighted the danger of diminishing God's glory, and I felt like I need to come back this week and explain to you what I was talking about when I talked about diminishing God's glory.

00;11;33;15 - 00;12;04;09
Unknown
Let me make this statement again. You can never decrease or increase God's intrinsic glory. I was referring to the actions and attitudes of our lives that reduce the amount of glory that we give to him. Our awesome God. In essence, I was referring to God's extrinsic glory. So we got God's intrinsic glory, and we have God's extrinsic glory.

00;12;04;11 - 00;12;33;03
Unknown
This is the praise and honor we and all of creation should give him. Let me give an example of extrinsic glory. In Romans chapter 11 and verse 36, the Bible says, for from him and through him, and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen. First Corinthians 1031 where then you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

00;12;33;05 - 00;12;58;22
Unknown
First Peter 411 whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God. Whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies, so that in all things listen to it. In all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever.

00;12;58;23 - 00;13;36;25
Unknown
Amen. God's extrinsic glory. Now God can be glorified passively. For instance, the Bible talks about creation glorifying God in Psalm 19, verses one and two. The Bible says the heavens are telling of the glory of God and their expanse is declaring the work of his hands. Day to day pours for speech and night to night reveals knowledge. The pristine white snow that we received on on Friday glorify God.

00;13;36;25 - 00;14;02;23
Unknown
It was beautiful, wasn't it? I mean, it was gorgeous. And then think about a night sky. A clear night sky. And you look up into that night sky and you see what looks to be billions of stars. You realize that God created every one of those stars. Do you realize that the Bible says that God has named every one of those stars?

00;14;02;26 - 00;14;35;27
Unknown
That's the glory of our creator God. So we can see that creation glorifies God passively, but you and I glorify and passively also think about this. While you slept last night, your heartbeat while you slept last night, your lungs filled with air and expelled air while you slept last night, your eyelashes did their thing here today. Your eyelashes.

00;14;36;04 - 00;15;12;29
Unknown
I read something about eyelashes and the wonder of eyelashes. The creator God and I'm telling you, it is amazing. The details that God put into eyelashes, simple eyelashes, the number of eyelashes, the spacing between the eyelashes, the purpose of the eyelashes. It all details the glory of our creator God. And so even as we sit here, we're glorifying God passively, but we also glorify God actively.

00;15;13;02 - 00;15;39;07
Unknown
We can do this by promoting and proclaiming the glory of our Lord with every part of our lives, every part of our lives. Do you realize that the animals do not have the ability to glorify God actively? They cannot choose to glorify God, are not to glorify God. You can. Every person within the sound of my voice, you can choose to glorify God.

00;15;39;10 - 00;16;09;25
Unknown
Are you can choose not to glorify God. That is unique for us as the creation of God. Now, in this series that we've entitled glorify, we're seeking to answer this question. How can we glorify God? In 2025, we've already said that is the most important thing we can do in this year. This month, this week and this day is the most important thing.

00;16;09;26 - 00;16;36;13
Unknown
Glorifying God, glorifying God. Enjoying him forever. What? How can we do it? Now, we've already discovered two ways that we can glorify God in this series. Number one, we can glorify God by observing the Lord's Supper and remembering his atoning death on our behalf. That's a great way to glorify God. And we do that several times throughout the year.

00;16;36;16 - 00;17;13;06
Unknown
A second way that we can glorify God. We looked at last week if we can abide in Jesus. And the Bible says in, in John chapter 15 that if we abide in Christ, that he will produce much fruit through our lives. I want you to understand that we don't produce anything. The Lord Jesus, whom we love, whom we've committed our lives to, if we abide in him, he produces that fruit, and we get to bear the fruit that he produces in our life, and it bring glory to him.

00;17;13;08 - 00;17;48;23
Unknown
Well, today I want to show you a few more ways that you can glorify the Lord in your life. Actively, actively. Number one, here we are. Number one, live to please Jesus. Live to see Jesus. In Matthew chapter five, verse 16, in the sermon on the Mount. By the way, on Wednesday night from 630 to 730, in the fellowship hall, I'm teaching verse by verse through the sermon on the Mount.

00;17;48;26 - 00;18;17;17
Unknown
We started with an introduction this past Wednesday, and we'll kick it off again this Wednesday. And we're just going to stay in there until we finish the sermon on the Mount. In Matthew chapter five verse 16, Jesus said this. He said, let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and notice and glorify your father who is in heaven.

00;18;17;20 - 00;19;07;23
Unknown
Let your light shine. Now our light is reflected light. We reflect the light of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ to a waiting, watching, need for world. And when we do reflect his light, then people glorify the father who is in heaven. In first Peter chapter two, verse 12, Peter wrote. Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may, because of your good, this now good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.

00;19;07;25 - 00;19;34;00
Unknown
What are some of those good deeds that we can actively, intentionally do to honor and glorify the Lord our God? Well, we can live by faith. We can exercise faith in those times when it's really hard and and we have to step out and we have to believe God. We have to take the faith that we've been talking about in church so much, and we have to actually exercise that faith.

00;19;34;03 - 00;19;58;15
Unknown
I'll tell you what it does. It glorifies the Lord. How else can we do it? Well we can. Another day we can do is love people without hypocrisy. Love them without hypocrisy. You know, I know it's hard to love some people. You realize that Jesus said in the sermon on the Mount that we're even to love our enemies.

00;19;58;17 - 00;20;39;09
Unknown
Wow. Well, if we're to love our enemies, what does that say about loving our fellow church members? What does that say about loving our neighbors? What does that say about loving our family members? Hey, look, you know, I know it's hard to love some people, but if we really want to glorify the Lord, we take what he has taught us so clearly in the Bible, and we put it into action to the power and the work of the indwelling Spirit of God, who empowers us to love without apocrypha, who empowers us to exercise faith.

00;20;39;12 - 00;21;03;19
Unknown
And then here's another way that we live to play Jesus. Here's another good day we can do. Jesus said that we're to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow him. I tell you, we glorify the Lord Jesus. When we do exactly that, we deny ourselves, take him out, cross daily and follow him, and we glorify him.

00;21;03;19 - 00;21;40;13
Unknown
When we offer ourselves as living and holy sacrifices to him, we glorify him. Look, I don't want to be guilty of just offering to my Lord passive glory. I want to offer him active glory where I choose, based upon the teaching of the Word of God, based upon the work of the Holy Spirit in me and through me, where I choose to glorify my Lord.

00;21;40;15 - 00;22;08;16
Unknown
I tell you, nothing can take the place of that, and it makes a great impact on the people around us. I promise you and then here's the second thing thing we can do to glorify the Lord. We can, number one, live to please Jesus. Number two, we can endure the tough times. How many of you know that if you're not in a tough time right now, you'll be in a tough time at some point in the future, right?

00;22;08;19 - 00;22;43;17
Unknown
It's just part of living in a fallen world. In first Peter chapter four, verses 12 through 16 and then verse 19, Peter wrote this beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you. But to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of his glory you may rejoice with exaltation.

00;22;43;19 - 00;23;11;01
Unknown
If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed because the spirit of glory and of God rest on you. Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler. But if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in his name.

00;23;11;04 - 00;23;44;21
Unknown
Therefore, those who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful creator, doing what is right. Now, ladies and gentlemen, there's no word in Scripture that says you have to thank God for hardships or trials or tribulations. But there is plenty of Scripture that says you ought to thank God in the midst of trials and tribulations and tough times, we can always, always thank God for being faithful to us.

00;23;44;26 - 00;24;07;15
Unknown
How many of you know that when you're in the heat of a battle and it's hard and you're choosing to actively glorify God and walk the way he wants you to walk and sink the way he wants you to think and do exactly what he wants you to do. How many of you know at that moment, at that very moment, he's faithful to you.

00;24;07;17 - 00;24;33;06
Unknown
He will not allow the righteous to be shaken. The Bible says he will sustain you physically, spiritually, emotionally, financially, morally. He will sustain you. So he's faithful to you in those times. And you know what? You can thank God for in those times. It's really hard. You can thank him that you're saved, that you're going to heaven, that you're not going to live with this mess.

00;24;33;07 - 00;24;56;29
Unknown
Your hope for all of eternity. You're going to be with Jesus in a place where there is no death. You're going to be in Jesus with be with Jesus in a place where there is no sickness and sorrow. There are no there are no funeral homes. There's no doctor's appointments there. There's no, cancer treatment. There's none of that stuff is perfect.

00;24;57;06 - 00;25;21;24
Unknown
And you're going to be with him forever. And you can thank him for that even when you're going through a difficult time. And here's another thing you can thank him for in those difficult times. You can thank him for his unflinching love for you. You know what the Bible said. The Bible says there's nothing that can separate you from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus your Lord.

00;25;21;26 - 00;25;57;07
Unknown
Now, this ability to trust the Lord in hard times has an amazing impact on other believers, but it also has an amazing impact upon those who are not believers. I remember Steven in the Bible, one of the deacons first deacons. Do you know what happened to Steven? He loved Jesus and he took a stand for Jesus. And the Jewish religious leaders brought him, brought him outside.

00;25;57;07 - 00;26;20;22
Unknown
And they began to stone him, and they stoned him to death. And there was a young man there who was holding the coats of those who were doing the stoning. His name was Saul of Tarsus, and Saul of Tarsus, who later became the Apostle Paul. Saul, Stephen, in a moment when he was really enduring a tough time in his life.

00;26;20;25 - 00;26;51;27
Unknown
And he did it in a way that glorified and honored the Lord Jesus. It had a tremendous impact upon Saul of Tarsus, who became Paul the Apostle, one of the greatest preachers in over half the New Testament. I'm telling you, if you learn the value of of enduring tough times and glorifying God in those times, it'll having them, it will it will be used by God to really impact people's lives.

00;26;52;00 - 00;27;39;14
Unknown
Now, here's a third way you can glorify God in your life. In 2025. Commit to sexual purity. You got to understand there was a heresy taking shape during the time much of the New Testament was being written. It was called Gnosticism, and it was built on the idea that the spirit and the soul was the most important part of a person, and they believed that you could do anything with your body, and it was perfectly okay as long as you had your spirit in your soul, right with God or the God they proclaimed.

00;27;39;17 - 00;28;06;15
Unknown
Well, I want you to know that that idea has found a place in people's hearts today. There are people in churches all across America. People in our cities, in our communities all across America, who bought into this idea that God is not really concerned what you do with your body. He's concerned about your spirit, your soul. I'm going to tell you that's a live from the pit of hell.

00;28;06;17 - 00;28;40;18
Unknown
I want you to hear the Word of God. First Corinthians chapter six, verses 18 to 20. Paul wrote, flee immorality. Let me give you the the country version of that. Tuck tail and run. If you find yourself in a situation that is compromising, run, run. Don't stay there and debate it. Don't stay there and think about it. Run!

00;28;40;20 - 00;29;08;03
Unknown
I think of Joseph in the Old Testament. Potiphar's wife had made a play event for him many times, and Joseph, one day when nobody was in the house but Joseph and Potiphar's wife, she made a play for him and he ran out and she grabbed his cloak and and he he ran out of there naked. I guess. But what they did is he fled immorality.

00;29;08;05 - 00;29;34;12
Unknown
You don't think that didn't have an impact on what God thought about Joseph? Joseph became the prime minister of Egypt. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall. And same part of his wife and Joseph is in the the the chariot prime minister of Egypt, in control of everything that happened with the food and everything.

00;29;34;19 - 00;30;07;11
Unknown
And and he's in the chariot and people would bow before him and I just I would love to have seen that woman bow before him. I'm telling you, you glorify God by committing to sexual purity. Flee immorality. Paul wrote in First Corinthians 618 through 20, every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

00;30;07;13 - 00;30;33;28
Unknown
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who's in you, and you have from God, and that you are not your own? You don't get to call the shots. That's why they say. Verse 20, for you have been bought with a price. What's that price? The blood of Jesus. If you're a born again believer, I want you to know that you've been bought with a price.

00;30;33;28 - 00;31;11;21
Unknown
And it's a blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. You don't get to call the shots. He's Lord. And then it goes on to say, therefore glorify God in your body. Oh, you don't think God cares about what you do with your body? Well, you don't understand the Scripture. The Bible said, therefore glorify God in your body. Listen, every part of your life has the potential to glorify God.

00;31;11;23 - 00;31;43;06
Unknown
You can glorify God in your educational pursuits. You can glorify God on the athletic field. You can glorify God in the music. Sweet as you work on your own, on your musical instrument and your musical ability. You can glorify God at work. You can glorify God on vacation. You can glorify God anywhere and everywhere with every part of your life.

00;31;43;08 - 00;32;20;20
Unknown
That's what this this whole teaching is about. But, you know, I found one more way that you can glorify God. Are you ready for it? Number four, you can glorify God. By believing in the Lord Jesus. By being saved in Ephesians chapter one, verses 3 to 7. Listen to the Word of God. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.

00;32;20;22 - 00;32;47;18
Unknown
Just as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before him in love he predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to himself according to the kind intention of his will. Now listen verse six. Listen to the praise of the glory of his grace, which he freely bestowed on us in the beloved.

00;32;47;20 - 00;33;23;15
Unknown
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. You know, I discovered something as I read Ephesians chapter one. I noticed three different times in Ephesians chapter one that it refers to the praise of the glory of his grace. Ladies and gentlemen, the Bible says in Romans 323, for all have sinned, and listen, and come short of the glory of God.

00;33;23;18 - 00;33;53;25
Unknown
You come short of the glory of God. You need help. You need somebody. You need a Redeemer to deliver you from your sin, from your your your shortfall. You need somebody. Jesus is his name. He loves you. He went to the cross and he died for your sins. He spilled his blood so that your sins could be forgiven and separated from you.

00;33;53;25 - 00;34;21;04
Unknown
As far as the east is from the west. And three days later, after he died on the cross, he was raised from the dead. He's alive. He can change your life today. He can. He can take your worst sins and all of your sins. Every single one of them. Past, present and future. And he can forgive them, just like he told Moses on Mount Sinai.

00;34;21;06 - 00;34;49;26
Unknown
Remember what he told Moses. He told him in verse chapter 34. Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, the Lord, the Lord God, compassion and gracious, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving kindness and truth, who keeps loving kindness for thou who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin. Our God never changes what God revealed to Moses.

00;34;49;26 - 00;35;17;16
Unknown
He's revealing to us today through the Word of God. He loves you. He can forgive. You can change your life. So I'm going to invite you today to glorify the Lord Jesus by placing your faith and trust in him as your personal Lord and Savior. Oh, I pray you'll come to Christ today.

I'm going to ask our staff to come, our worship team to come, and we're going to have a time when we respond to what the Lord has done in our lives today. And if you're in this room, you say, pastor, I want to glorify the Lord Jesus by believing in him today. You come to one of our staff members.

Come to one of them. Just tell them that you want to be saved today to the glory of his grace. Maybe you're here today. You say, pastor, I found it so interesting that you said that I could glorify the Lord Jesus by living to please him. Maybe you say, pastor, I'm not living to please him right now.

Maybe you want to come to this altar and just bow before the Lord and confess that to him, and ask him to give you victory? Or maybe you're going through a tough time, and it's really hard right now. And in your heart of hearts, you want to glorify him in this hard time.
